Soda Pop is Galloping around on Amazon

for print and kindle maybeThe weekend is here and I am making a big author announcement……”The Magic of Soda Pop” is released and live as of today on Amazon. So meet the horse behind the pages of this book for middle grade kids. This horse story may be just a figment of my imagination, but once you start reading….it will draw you in and let you get close and personal with all the characters. This is another of my creations that takes a look at bullying, since the problem seems to run rampant in schools across America.

While writing and putting this book together, as soon as I came to the end of this book, I realized that more could be more written about Soda Pop and the boys in this book, taking them to another level or another stage; simply because Soda Pop is a rodeo horse. In this book “The Magic of Soda Pop,” the hint of an upcoming rodeo and its preparation is mentioned. So, there just might be a book two or a series; after all, I have to bring the characters full circle. I don’t think the characters are finished with me yet….Nope, I don’t think they are because they are throwing out hints as I type,( the little rascals!) So this new book, “The Magic of Soda Pop,” is an introduction into what is to come next.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new book. It is making it’s debut on Amazon today. Available in paperback and ebook.

Saddle up and enjoy!

What’s New? Curb Appeal in Print Books

I’ve been trying to wait with patience to unveil the new print versions of my books, waiting for them to appear on Amazon like the ebooks, which are already live. While waiting I hopped on over to Barnes and Noble to get my books set up over there. Authors have to make their rounds you know. I am pleased to announce that some of my books are live there as well. Including two of the updated books that I’m waiting on to show up on Amazon. How did that happen? Needless to say, I had to make some inquiries today because I have questions. Two days ago, I uploaded a brand new NookBook for Barnes &Noble. It’s in the process of being published. So you can look for “Spring Where Are You?” to appear on their shelf within the next couple of days. Meanwhile….let me give you a sneak preview of the book cover change coming to Amazon and hopefully to Barnes & Nobles. Same great stories, but with a new look, which I call “Curb Appeal.” New Look of print books, coming soon to Amazon and Barnes &Noble. Be on the look out for them.

It’s Not Raining on Ella’s Parade

IT’S NOT RAINING ON ELLA’S PARADE
(TAKING A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE BOOK.)

Broken Voices on amazon

It is hard enough being a teenager, but when you are a teenager with a secret and a physical problem that you try to hide, life can become complicated and your peers can be mean when you try to adjust to what is considered to be “normal” when you are different. Her issues are relevant, universal, and full of reality, fighting issues of yesterday, today and for tomorrow. She is a positive role model.

Ella Rose Abbott is Happy With Her 4 and 5 Star Reviews!
By Olga Verro
Format:Kindle Edition
Olga Gladky Verro, Editor of “Voices From The Past” by Orest M. Gladky recommends the book “Broken Voices” for reading to teenage girls. “Broken Voices” is a book that was needed to be written. As a former high school teacher I would have recommended this book to the school and town/city library. The author writes in a style that high school girls would understand and communicates to them the feelings of a handicapped girl with speech difficulty. It promotes in the reader understanding that could help them to accept and help the handicapped students to feel accepted as a friend.

I know first hand how it is to feel the way Ella did. I adore Author Winona Rasheed, how she wrote Ella’s character. I felt as though I was right there with her and I could feel the emotion that was pouring out from this young girls heart.
I am glad that Mrs. Rasheed showed in her book how cruel people can be towards people with a disability and that if you have a disability don’t be afraid to stand up and let your voice be heard.

Author Winona Rasheed is a deep-hearted writer who puts her mind to think about her readers first, she writes what they want to read, see and hear.

Great job and congratulations on “Broken Voices!

By Amazon Customer
Format:Paperback
Broken Voices is an excellent book that takes a look at how children treat and interact with people who are different. It also looks at how children with disabilities feel about and deal with their handicap. This book provides a voice in literature that has not been heard. The reader can identify with Ella, as we all have felt out of place in high school.

Broken Voices, by Winona Rasheed

Broken Voices follows Ella, a young deaf girl, on her first day at a new high-school. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces, Ella will face her fears of what people will think of her and how she will be treated by her piers. She decides she must attempt to keep her impaired hearing a secret so she can make it through her first day.

This book is compelling and thought-provoking. The story accurately and realistically describes many situations that might confront a deaf person. One of the main points of this book is that we should be ourselves, even if it is sometimes difficult.

This book is well written and the author handles the different methods of communication gracefully and convincingly. I would recommend this book to those with disabilities and anybody who has compassion for those who have different challenges.

Ella Rose Abbot begins her first day of high school full of self-doubt and then triumphs over the day. Ella, a deaf girl, signs, writes, and speaks with “a broken voice,” as it turns out, very beautifully. “Broken Voices” is a celebration of differences and acceptance. It is a story that will lift you up and make you feel better about the world.

In Broken Voices by Winona Rasheed, the author recounts the story of Ella, a deaf girl, going to high school for the first time. The story covers the first day of school and how Ella has chosen to handle her deafness. For the beginning part of the day, Ella has decided to not tell anyone she is deaf and see what happens. When that does not work very well, she makes a decision to just let her classmates know she is deaf.

Throughout the story, the reader is very aware of Ella’s internal struggle as she tries to decide the best course of action. She is torn between wanting to appear normal in her new school and knowing that she is different. However, she is also keenly aware of not wanting to be seen as “deficient” or “lesser than” because she is deaf. She finds that keeping deafness a secret is almost impossible in high school, where she is called on to answer questions and interact in small groups. When her secret gets out, the reactions from the other students are, at times, predictable, and at other times, it is not.

Rasheed handles the issues of being deaf or different and in a new school with grace and sensitivity. The issues and concerns faced by students are many and students have to make decisions that are not always easy. The internal conflict that arises is real and oftentimes not discussed. The story offers a nice entre for teachers to have a discussion about how to handle those who are different, have a handicap, and what that means. Rasheed offers a number of ways for the teachers and adults to help students with these types of transitions. Overall, this is a great read handling a universal issue.

Questions:
1. In the story, the main character is deaf and feels she has to keep her “handicap” a secret. Should those who are deaf keep their deafness a “secret?”
2. How would you handle the first day of school if you were “different” in some way? Would you tell everyone right away? Or let the other students discover it?
3. In the story, Ella has some good teachers and some not so good teachers, what are the characteristics of a good teacher for the deaf?
4. One of the characters in the book knows sign language because her brother is deaf, but she keeps it a secret. Do you think she is ashamed of her brother?
5. Do you know someone with a handicap? How does it impact their ability to get along with others?
Quote

Ella read his lips and mouthed the words, “thank-you” in silence. He was the only familiar face in English class and seeing Marcus, the Good Samaritan, made her feel a little more at ease as she turned to face the teacher.

I Love Offering Free Books & Getting Reviews!

lady on computer 1  Yes I really do love book reviews! But guess what, they are so hard to come by. All an author can do is just hope and pray that once a reader finish reading a book, they will leave a review of it…especially if they like it. But sometimes, we authors have to take the good with the bad, the bitter with the sweet and keep on going on when and if that happens.

I just put 3 of my children’s books on sale and the price tag is “Free” for a limited amount of time. Since the books are free, I am hoping that purchasers will leave a little review of what they have read.

I don’t think that is asking too much, do you? What can it hurt? The eBook titles that I am offering from now until March 1, 2015 are…….TOTALLY FREE.  I like free, don’t you? Fill up your Kindle bookshelf for the kiddies. The sale is taking place now!

Recognizing Author Dragica Lord

ADL Award 6I was just sitting here thinking, so I got busy with my morning thoughts and decided to blog about it, because I want to pass the word around. After all, this author is so deserving of recognition. I’m not talking about myself either, because I have been procrastinating in my writing. But the author that I am promoting, recognizing today does not have a procrastinating bone in her body. She goes for it! She stays at it until the book is finished. It is so exciting when her books are released. Whenever she promotes her new items, she always gives inspiring hints of what is forth-coming and then she nails it when she gives a sneak preview of her cover, which are always awesome because she has a fabulous book cover designer for all of her projects. In other words, the author I am talking about knows her stuff. She knows the business of writing, presenting, promoting and grabbing the attention of readers. She is very effective in presenting herself as a professional writer. I am very proud to know her and know her work, for she never delivers anything shabby or worthless. She is inspiring! That’s why today, February 24, 2014, I pay tribute and recognize this hard working author.

Who am I referring to? AUTHOR DRAGICA LORD

Her new book was just released today, “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, an inspiring and heartfelt story that takes you inside the heartache and pain of sibling rivalry, mental abuse, family struggles and the contemplation of  revenge. Do you have the spirit to turn the other cheek? Can you find peace within the struggle? This story is written from a Christian perspective, which means there’s a battle between good and evil taking place within the pages. I personally, highly recommend this book.

Baa Baa Black Sheep ADL With all that being said, it’s time for me to present to Author Dragica Lord, an award that shows her worth as a writer.

ADL award 1 You are fabulous! Keep  excelling and Keep creating and keep doing what you do!  Your work is priceless!

Promoting My Books

My Facebook cover by Author Rhonda Patton

Hi everybody, just sitting here at my desk and feeling a little book promoting coming on. I am in a better mood today because the sun is shining even though it is still cold. Hey, what do you expect for the month of February, tank tops and flip flops? I think not! But, those days are coming and I can’t wait. But until then…nothing else to do but promote my books. I could be doing other things….But I am not! Promoting is more fun….yeah I said it….it’s fun and I enjoy it because I have some great reading material for all ages. Just getting the word out!

I’ve been doing a lot of promoting for the ebook versions of my books. I even had ebook sales of 99 cents and free in January.  My goodness, the sales sky rocketed and that put a smile on my face because it showed people were buying the books….now, are they reading them, or just holding on to the keepsakes?

Well today, I am promoting the print versions of all my books. With all these electronic reading gadgets available today, it seems that more and more readers are turning to these devices to read their books, or even those using audio. That’s all fine and good. But I as an author, do not want you to forget about print books. They might seem old fashion and out dated in today’s modern society, but really…they are not! I love the feel of pages between my fingers and using an old fashion book marker to save my spot.

Just wondering, when school kids do book reports today, do they read physical books or do most of them turn to their Kindles? How do your readers choose to read? What do they enjoy doing better?

Feel the pages of these books and get them from Amazon.
